- This is important for Palin. If they don't win, she obviously has ambitions for the future. Course, this matter isn't resolved yet either. Some are saying she will be the head of the republican party or at least a big player in its future. I'm not sure about that. Could be.

- The only problem with your view is that Obama then would not have been able to answer the barrage of swiftboat smearing that McCain and the RNC and other groups are now throwing at him. He was smart to not leave himself so vulnerable.

- From an historical perspective, these races do tend to tighten up near the end. More and more people are making up their minds. So Obama was correct when he said in recent speeches that his supporters should not get "cocky."

- Like many of the comments on this list, I feel Obama does not need to do this. The American people are already making up their minds about Palin. Her negatives have steadily grown. Why get in the way of that?
